Initially we could find no obvious link between this soldier and Brightwell cum Sotwell though we did find a Thomas Henry Emberry in The Knutsford Workhouse, Cheshire in 1911. As we have now had contact with a living relative, we feel fairly confident that this is our Thomas Henry Emberry. So in 1911 he was in the workhouse at age 13 with his mother, Emma 30yrs and twin sisters Mary and Edith 8yrs. On leaving the workhouse, we were told, he came south and enlisted in the army. So prior to the war he must have been living within the village bounds.
