Born in Slade End March 1883 and enlisted in Devizes, Wiltshire, he was killed in action 21 November 1914 Flanders, France, aged 31.
Son of Robert and Hannah Talbot (née Lay) of Slade End. Hugh’s father, Robert, was a shepherd in the 1891 census when the family lived in Slade End. By 1901, 18yr old Hugh was working for a wealthy family in Kensington, London, as a doorman. He joined the army later and was serving in South Africa in 1911.
