Born in 1879, Heber’s birth was registered as ‘Eber’. In 1881 when he was 2yrs old, his parents Abraham and Marina and their then seven children lived in Little London. Abraham was an agricultural labourer. By the 1901 census the ‘H’ had been added to Heber’s name and he was working as a gardener, living with his parents. In the 1911 census the middle name of ‘John’ seems to have crept in and Heber John and his wife Mary were living in Slade End with daughters Gladys 6yrs and Florence 2yrs. Heber was now working as a groom.
