Son of Charles and Ellen Brooker (née Mayne) , Bell Lane, Sotwell. In 1901 Arthur Charles was 13yrs and the family were living in Pennygreen Lane which then included the section of Bakers Lane runing along the north side of St James’ church. His father was a farm labourer, his mother, Ellen, a laundress and elder sister Alice, a parlour maid. By 1911 Arthur Charles was working as a gardener at Mapledurham. He was uncle to Isabel Colquhoun, author of “Pit Pat the Pan’s Hot” – a book of Brightwell recollections.
