Killed in action 18 September 1916 in Flanders, France, aged 22.

Son of Alfred James (a coachman) and Sarah Ann of Gable Cottage, Sotwell. He was Baptized 25th March 1894 St James’ Sotwell. The 1911 census details Alfred at 17yrs as an apprentice carpenter, his elder sister Sarah Elizabeth as a teacher and a younger brother, Albert William, age 14yrs, as a ‘garden boy’.
